Beyond Unna's Boot: Clinical and Economic Advantages of Modern Zinc-Impregnated Two-Layer Compression Systems
Wednesday, November 4, 2026
12:30 PM (UTC-04:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
30-minute webinar (25-minute presentation, 5-minute Q&A)
Abstract:
Compression therapy remains the cornerstone of lower extremity ulcer management, yet not all compression systems deliver the same patient experience or economic value. This webinar reviews evidence from a systematic literature review and a quality improvement study comparing traditional Unna's Boot therapy with a modern Zinc-impregnated two-layer compression system (CoFlex® TLC Zinc). Attendees will gain insights into clinical outcomes, patient-reported measures such as comfort, itch and odor, healthcare utilization, and cost-of-care considerations that can inform compression therapy selection in contemporary wound care practice.
Overview:
Lower extremity ulcers continue to place a significant burden on patients and healthcare systems. While Unna's Boot has historically served as a standard compression therapy, advances in compression technology have introduced newer options designed to improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, and healthcare resource utilization. This webinar will review emerging evidence comparing traditional Unna's Boot therapy with a modern Zinc-impregnated two-layer compression system (CoFlex® TLC Zinc). Participants will explore findings from a systematic literature review and a real-world quality improvement study examining patient-reported outcomes, symptom management, quality of life, visit frequency, and total cost of care. The session will also discuss practical considerations for clinicians seeking to optimize compression therapy selection while balancing clinical effectiveness and economic value.
Objectives:
- Understand the clinical factors driving successful compression therapy outcomes.
- Explore strategies to reduce symptom burden, including odor and itch, for patients receiving compression therapy.
- Examine opportunities to reduce utilization and total cost of care through appropriate compression selection.
- Review real-world evidence supporting the transition from traditional Unna's Boot therapy to a modern zinc-impregnated two-layer compression system (CoFlex® TLC Zinc).
