Challenges & Solutions to Implement and Comply with Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs)

For the past few years, wound/ulcer management professionals have experienced “wake-up” calls about the importance of documentation to support provision of the standard of care at each encounter and to justify and fully describe surgical procedures performed. The plethora of audits occurring throughout the country have caused many wound care professionals to examine and refine their own processes and documentation.
In this webinar, a follow-up to the “Tips for Implementing the CTP LCD in Your Practice” session, Kathleen Schaum, MS will again interview Gayle Gordillo, MD (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) and Kara Couch, MS CRNP (George Washington University Hospital) for insights on: 1) processes they had to improve when documenting the standard of care, 2) how they taught physicians and other qualified healthcare professionals to support medical necessity regardless if a Local Coverage Determination (LCD) did/did not exist, and 3) why all wound/ulcer management stakeholders should conduct internal audits to ensure that they provide the best care to their patients and that they are audit-ready at all times.
These discussions should prove invaluable to you and your team. Plus, be sure to take advantage of the chance to ask specific questions during the live Q & A session.
Objectives:
- Recognize that we are in the wound/ulcer management business
- Understand that the payers expect us to provide the standard of care at every encounter
- Understand that the payers’ coverage and documentation requirements for standard of care apply to each encounter
- Share some typical challenges and solutions to implement and comply with wound/ulcer management LCDs
- Discuss the importance of conducting internal audits to prepare for external audits
