Zachary Buchwald, MD, PhD, is a radiation oncologist and physician-scientist specializing in the care of patients with cutaneous malignancies. He earned his PhD in immunology and his medical degree from Saint Louis University. He completed his radiation oncology residency at Emory University School of Medicine, where he served as co-chief resident and pursued advanced research training through the Holman Research Pathway.

Dr. Buchwald leads a basic and translational research program investigating how radiation enhances antitumor immunity in melanoma and other cancers. His laboratory studies how radiation stimulates distinct T-cell subsets, how tumor-draining lymph nodes coordinate immune responses, and how circadian rhythms can be harnessed to improve immunotherapy. He is translating these discoveries into clinical trials aimed at improving long-term outcomes for patients with advanced cutaneous malignancies.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Buchwald cares for patients with both early-stage and advanced skin cancers.
