Dr. Gaurav Pranami is Vice President of Research and Development at Imbed Biosciences, where he directs the design, scale-up, and regulatory clearance of novel bioresorbable wound matrices. He has more than 15 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams in industrial research, product development, and regulatory strategy. His technical expertise spans polymer science, coatings and interface engineering, process scale-up, and advanced wound care technologies. His work has been instrumental in the development and FDA clearance of the company’s SAM™ portfolio of products, including the latest PainGuard™ line, which integrates silver and lidocaine HCl to simultaneously address infection risk and pain.
At Imbed, Dr. Pranami has successfully secured over $13 million in NIH and Department of Defense funding, led IDE-enabling studies, and managed regulatory submissions spanning Q-subs, 510(k)s, and IDEs. He has extensive hands-on experience with biocompatibility evaluations under ISO 10993, quality systems under CFR 820 and ISO 13485, and regulatory strategy for complex drug-device combination products. He is the lead inventor on multiple patents and has authored peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on advanced materials and medical device technologies.
Dr. Pranami earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University, conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and holds a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He also serves on the editorial board of the TAPPI Journal.
