Dr. Pittman is an Associate Professor at the University of South Alabama with a research focus on pressure injuries (PIs), ostomy-related complications and health disparities. She also serves as a Nurse Scientist supporting PI prevention and wound/ostomy nursing practice with the University of South Alabama (USA). Dr. Pittman is a certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence (WOC) nurse, certified Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner, nurse researcher on more than 23 research studies, past Vice President of the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP), past Deputy Editor for the JWOCN, and currently on the JWOCN Advisory Board. Dr. Pittman was on the Guideline Governance Group developing the 2019 International Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers/Injuries, 3rd edition, and is currently serving on 2 Panel Groups for the 4th edition of the Guideline. Dr. Pittman and colleagues developed 3 instruments relevant to WOC nursing- the Pressure Ulcer/Injury Prevention Inventory (PUPI), Pressure Injury Prevention Gap Analysis Instrument (PIPGAI), and the Ostomy Complication Severity Index (OCSI). Dr. Pittman has published over 52 peer-reviewed journal articles, 3 book chapters, and 118 presentations across the United States, Canada, Scotland, England, and Europe. Dr. Pittman is an expert consultant regarding complex wound and ostomy management.
